Mom's Visit and Surgry Part II

The surgery went well and I was a bit more mobile than I first imagined I would be. I was able to walk with crutches but was unable to put much weight on my leg. It was hard to move in and out of bed and the shower for the first week or so.

Using crutches and being partially immobile was a huge challenge for me. It was hard to sit still and not try to do things myself. It was hard to have not 1 but 2 people doting after me especially when I just wanted to do it myself. But I know I am very lucky to have had both my mother and boyfriend around to help take care of me and keep me from pushing myself too much in the initial weeks. I also learned that Bali is not equipped for anyone with a handicap.

We decorated for Christmas and took my mom around Bali as much as we could in those 4 weeks so was here. I was so proud of her for flying across the world on her own, walking around Sanur and trying lots of new food!

Here are the highlights of her trip....

At my house decorating for Christmas in the sweltering heat!

Headed over to Seminyak area for some lounging to watch the sunset...

Another day we went to Tanah Lot which is another important sea temple in Bali. I made the mistake of only bringing one crutch thinking I was ready....no way! I'll definitely have to go back here when I can actually walk around...

 Relaxing and enjoying the view...

Trying some delicious dragon fruit! Yum!

Christmas dinner with new friends :)

More sunsets....

A trip up to Ubud...
Our resort!

Visiting the Monkey Forest up in Ubud...They stayed away from me because I had crutches but they climbed onto my mom when she started to reach into her bag for her phone. They thought she had some food! One jump up and we started to laugh but then a second one joined!

The Palace in the daytime

At night we went to watch the Barong dance at the Palace. A barong is a line-like character in Balinese mythology. The barong dance acts out a mythological tale between good vs. evil.

The Barong

Days later...back in Seminyak for drinks on the beach after physical therapy

We took a day tour up to see Tegallalang Rice Terraces, Mount Batur and the Luwak coffee tour. On our way up to Mount Batur we stopped at a Batik factory to learn how they still make things by hand. Batik is the Indonesian traditional textile. Then we went to a wood carving shopping to learn the types of wood used and watch the carvers in action. So talented!

Walking on the volcanic rock....

At the Luwak coffee place

Out to dinner for mom's last night in Bali....
