Salvador and Morro de Sao Paulo - December 2014

So now it is finally time to share some stories from my summer break! Let the vacation begin! It was finally time for a much needed vacation from work. We are lucky enough to have 6 1/2 weeks off and I wanted to take full advantage of that time. In those 6 weeks I traveled on 3 different continents, 8 cities, and enjoyed it all! I headed up north for a week to the state of Bahia. Salvador was the first capital of Brazil and is known as "little Africa" and its mixture of African and Catholic traditions. During my first full day in Salvador, I took a bus tour to see the city and bought my boat ticket to head to Morro de Sao Paulo the next day. Here are some pics from the tour.... The next day I ventured down to the port to get the boat. This time I remembered to get onto the public bus at the BACK door...apparently in Salvador you board in the back where you pay the guy (who works solely to take your money) and exit in the front near the driver. Last update before I can get into my vacations from the break! Almost there... My friend, Jess, and I took a weekend trip to a beautiful island of Florianopolis a few hours north in the state of Santa Catarina. We decided to take the flight instead of the bus to give us more beach time since we were just going for the weekend. The stress of the first semester had taken a toll on both of us and we were in desperate need of a relaxing weekend getaway!  The very detailed map that led us to this beautiful beach....... We had this little beach all to ourselves for awhile! And we even saw a dolphin swimming!  The view from our hostel window

October 2014 - Weekend trip to Sao Paulo This city is about a 1 1/2 hour flight from Porto Alegre. It is the largest city in both the Americas with over 11 million people! There is so much to see and explore there, but since I was only there for a weekend, I stuck to two neighborhoods! I will have to go back again! I went on a free walking tour of centro and learned about the history of the city and the architecture. Beautiful art as well... One of a few buildings built by the famous architect Ocsar Niemeyer Our awesome tour guide! Having a little fun with the art of Edgar Degas!  These tiles were drawn by students! Such a great idea!  Went to a huge samba club that used to be an old theater Just a typical night..a masked man is selling beers and grilling meat out of his beetle right next to a bar! :) Love it!
