Komodo Diving Trip - October 2017

Back in October, we took a week long trip to Komodo National Park on a live aboard. We flew from Bali to Labuan Bajo where we met the crew and boarded the boat.

Our boat for the next week!

From there we spent the next few days cruising around the sea.  We quickly fell into a daily routine...eat, dive, eat, dive, eat, dive, sleep. Because I was getting over a sinus infection and my ears blocked, I was unable to dive the first few days. I enjoyed some quiet time reading my book while staring off at the beautiful landscape around me. I was itching to get in the water though and luckily my ears popped open and I made it into the water for the second half of the trip.

One of the highlights of the trip had to be seeing the manta rays. They were majestic to watch. Huge creatures effortless gliding through the water.

One evening we took a hike up to watch the sunset. We were ill-prepared and only had flip flops on. It was a hot, sweaty hike but the view more than made up for it.

Another evening we were pleasantly surprised when the crew took us out on the small boat to a tiny island with pink sand.

And of course we couldn't go to Komodo National Park without seeing the Komodo dragons. They are the largest heaviest lizards in the world and are only found in this area. They have a venomous bite and will track their prey for days as the wait for the venom to slowly kill the animal.
This guy parked himself on the entrance path to the park. Apprehensively and with the encouragement of the guides with the bamboo poles, I slowly made my way over for a picture.

What an amazing journey Komodo was....beautiful landscape, great diving filled with an abundance of sea life and seeing the Komodo dragons of course!
