Blogging hiatus is Officially Over!

After a 5 month hiatus, I am finally getting myself back into blogging. The last few months have been busy and there are so many new things to add! I've been so wrapped up in settling into life here, trying to get a handle on teaching Kindergarten, and having hip surgery that this blog has been neglected. It's time to get back on track!

A few reflections before I hit the rewind button:

If you look at my life through the tiny lens of pictures I post on Facebook and Instagram one would imagine my life to be a constant vacation where I am sipping on a cool beer with my feet in the sand watching the sunset go down every day....now this does happen, not as often as I would like (I'm working on this) but there are many daily life events and ups and downs that don't get posted. Yes, people - I do still work...7:30 to at least 4 every day and then some more work in the evenings and sometimes weekends.

Aside from work, life in general as an expat also brings its own set of joys and challenges. I love this new path I have chosen for myself and enjoy all the new experiences and memories I am gaining from my new adventures - getting to know other expats and locals and learning about the culture and history of Bali and Indonesia all the while pushing myself outside of my comfort zone and learning more about how I am as an individual. It's not easy starting a life in a new place all on your own, but the positives totally outweigh the negatives and challenges.

But then there are days when you just want to throw your arms up from silly little annoyances to larger ones...but you remember you just need to sit back and laugh....
* How many malls and stores do I have to visit before I find a quality set of bed sheets with a fitted AND top sheet? - The answer is 3 malls and I've lost track of the amount of stores.
*Where can I get some quality cream cheese?
*Go ahead...park in the middle of the road and hold up traffic or better yet just drive down the wrong side of the road and look at me like I'm the one in the wrong. :)
*Beer and wine selection - Blah - oh how I miss a delicious flavorful beer.....
*Garbage collectors say I haven't paid my bill so they aren't collecting my trash...well I would pay it IF they gave me a bill to tell me that I owe money.
* How it takes an hour to drive 15 km to the other side of the island...gotta love traffic :)

But yes, I do know I am extremely blessed to have the life I have and I'm so glad I decided to pursue international teaching. I am absolutely loving my life here and Bali and look forward to spending more time here and exploring and enjoying this beautiful island. I do miss friends and family from home and great friends I made in Brazil...I hope forward to getting to visit all of them again...hopefully sooner rather than later.
