Day 4 Part 1 Visiting Local Family

Day 4 Part 1
Around 5:30 am we climbed into the wooden boat which by now was causing pain and probably bruising my butt from sitting on that hard wooden plank for hours! Anyway, we headed down the river to find a good spot to watch the sunrise. Although there many clouds that blocked some of the sun as it was rising, it was still so peaceful to sit and watch the sunrise as the birds were chirping and flying all around you.

Then we headed back to the lodge and relaxed a little before breakfast. After breakfast, we climbed back into our wooden boat, but this time I decided it was time for some padding on that wooden plank! All three of us created our own little butt pad. I can’t believe we didn't think of it earlier!

We went to visit a local family – it was actually John John’s family! Our guide, Joshua, sat us down and told us some stories of his life growing up and what the typical life was here. This was now the second house we saw. Back on the first day, we stopped at one of his friend’s houses to escape the sudden downpour after piranha fishing. It was a simple house built on stilts with a few windows. I was surprised to see a large flat screen TV and a refrigerator. Joshua told us these things were fairly new as the government has recently been conducting more programs to help the people there. He told us that the electricity lines have only been around for about 10 years. I was a little disappointed when we visited the John John’s family that morning because it seemed to be a tourist spot as other people in different tours showed up. We stayed the longest and John John even took out the jaguar he killed. You could see how proud he was!

 Anaconda skin!

Doesn't everyone store their soccer shoes next to an anaconda skin? haha

 That's their pet monkey!

This is a poisonous caterpillar!

 The jaguar John John killed

This is called urucum. It is known as a natural suncreen and is also used for coloring/dying.

I really didn't want this boa constrictor around my neck, but I finally decided to just suck it up and do it. Suzette did a great job at capturing my true emotion. haha

We learned the process of making manioc flour.
 Mango Tree

 Acai berry

Top of the acai tree...they are very tall and thin!

Time to leave!
